Best in show: Glenrioch New Beginnings for Libertygold JW

Another beautiful sunny day greeted us in Alva where the Golden Retriever Club of Scotland held its Open Show. It was supposed to be an outdoors show but the soggy ground after the night’s rain and the very important Health & Safety dictated the show to be held indoors.
Cochrane Hall is quite ideal for a single breed show, enough space for the ring, exhibitors, dogs - and of course the kitchen that served different hot and cold foods and drinks, everything from bacon rolls and baked potatoes to my half-a-cup-of-coffee. Oh and all those delicious cakes and biscuits.
The show had a good entry, the committee worked hard on running an efficient show, everyone looked cheerful and congratulated each other. The lunch break was spent with eating 3 cakes to celebrate the 3 recently made up Show Champions. I had a piece of the chocolate cake - it was delicious! Adult handling competition took place during that time too, the class was well populated and lots of laughter heard from the ring and ringside. Eye testing was offered during the day as well that several caring owners took advantage of.
Judge Miss L Layland (Applecote) found her overall winner in the bitch Glenrioch New Beginnings for Libertygold JW whose delighted owner couldn’t stop her tears.
Reserve BIS went to the veteran bitch. There is always one that you pick out at the show you attend, and this time it was this girl for me. With the vibrancy of a junior, she obviously enjoyed her day out. Oblivious of the surroundings, she only had eyes for her handler for whom she was ready to do anything.
