Sharkey's early career as an Engineering Officer in the Merchant Navy took him around the world, developing an interest and skill in photography over these years. When he retired from his naval duties due to injury he turned this interest into a full time career in photography with his first commission coming from the BBC. Having a lifelong love of dogs he soon turned his attention to requests from Pedigree, Purina, the Kennel Gazette and Dog World whilst adding Fine Art Portraiture to his repertoire.
