THE KENNEL CLUB RECOGNISES THE PYRENEAN SHEEPDOG (SMOOTH FACE)

The Pyrenean Sheepdog (Smooth Face) is a small breed of herding dog from the Pyrenees region of France. It is very closely related to the Pyrenean Sheepdog (Long Haired), recognised by The Kennel Club in 1988, although the Smooth Face has a softer, shorter coat with the hair on the face and muzzle in particular being very short giving a shaved appearance. The body is also shorter and the overall appearance is of a more square-shaped dog.

The Kennel Club now recognises 222 breeds of pedigree dog. A Kennel Club interim breed standard is being developed for the Pyrenean Sheepdog (Smooth Face) and, when this is published, the breed will be able to be entered at Kennel Club licensed breed shows.
