KENNEL CLUB URGES DOG OWNERS IN MAIDSTONE TO HAVE THEIR SAY ON DOG WALKING RESTRICTIONS

The Kennel Club is urging dog owners in Maidstone to respond to a consultation on Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) that could have a lasting impact on the ways in which owners can access popular walking sites with their dogs.

The consultation proposes an increase in dog fouling fines as well as excluding dogs from multiple sites, including play areas and the Vinters Park Crematorium. It also includes a proposal to increase the fines levied on those who allow their dog to stray.
Holly Conway, Head of Public Affairs at the Kennel Club, commented: “The proposals within this consultation could significantly impact dog owners across Maidstone.

“The Kennel Club does not oppose the use of PSPOs and, indeed, advocate for them as useful, non-invasive tools to clamp down on a small minority of irresponsible dog owners. However, we would strongly encourage all residents and businesses to respond to ensure their voice is heard.”

The consultation will be open until 12th July 2020 and can be found on the Maidstone Council website here: www.maidstone.gov.uk/home/other-services/community-protection/tier-2-primary-areas/animals-and-pests/tier-3-primary-areas/dog-control-pspo.

There is further advice for dog owners facing access issues on the Kennel Club website: www.thekennelclub.org.uk/our-resources/kennel-club-campaigns/access-for-owners-and-dogs/.
