After the show it was the AGM at which were told that Jackie Bowns had resigned as Secretary and that Trevor Crossland was taking over as Secretary. He will also continue to hold the Office of Treasurer until a replacement can be found. The KC had given permission as along as it does not go on too long. If you are interested in becoming the Treasurer you need to put your intentions in a letter to the secretary together with the signatures of a proposer and seconder. Linda Howard has resigned as Chairman. Jackie Bowns has said she will take over the Chairmanship for one year. Anyone interested in taking on the role should contact the secretary in writing including the signatures of a proposer and seconder. Several members of the committee have also resigned. The new committee members are Stacey Marie Scott, Lorraine Hutley, Angie Wollerton and Richard cartwright. Thank you to the retiring members for their years of service and hard work and best of luck to the new committee.
We also heard at the show that Julie Bradshaw has suffered a very bad stroke. I know that you will want to join with me in wishing her all the best for a good recovery.
On Monday I attended Poul Sier- Sorenson’s funeral which has held at Burnley Crematorium. There was a very good turn out of people who had all known Poul for a long time. Poul was brought in to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, with Abba’s Dancing Queen in The Middle and The Great Pretender for the Mourners to leave and those close to Poul to say their final goodbyes. The Minister who led the service was excellent with readings and stories about Poul’s life. It was a very uplifting at such a sad. Afterwards the mourners attended Rose Grove Workingmen’s Club which almost next door to the Crem; for a buffet provided by Sue Crossley and Louise Farnworth for which they deserve thanks. The funeral organization was done by Ann Sutton and her family for which we thank her and also thank you to Gavin Robertson who was not able to attend on Monday but had organized the fund raising to allow Poul to have a proper send off. Many thanks to all those who donated to the fund it has been much appreciated by Poul’s friends.

Shih Tzu Breed Notes 1st April 2019
Firstly, I must apologise, for not writing the breed notes for some time. I had become a little discouraged and despondent about our beautiful breed. Then we lost Harry my eldest Shih Tzu to Spinal Disc Disease which left his son; Ted very bereft for quite some time as they always did everything together. Ted seems to be happier now and hopefully will be out and about this year.
It is with great sadness, that I must report the passing of another doyen of our breed. Poul Sier- Sorenson lost his battle with cancer two weeks ago. I believe that Annabel Stephenson was with him at the end for which we thank her.
I have known Poul; since I started in Shih Tzu almost 40 years ago. When I first met Poul he was with his long -term partner Harry Baxter; who had been my English Teacher while at school. I knew nothing of Harry’s involvement with dogs until I got my first Shih Tzu. During the early years in the breed, both Poul and Harry gave my mum and I much support and advise.
When I first knew Poul, he was showing his Shih Tzu Champion Ragoosa Golden Raffles, he was whelped in 1977, bred by Tina Lewis. His sire was Ch Greenmoss Glory Bee ex Furaha Florsho of Ragoosa, who had 3 lines to the great Ch Greenmoss Chin-ki of Meo. It was very common in the 80’s to have quite q few champions in the open class and variety classes at open shows. Raffles was a regular competitor, he was a lovely dog both in looks and temperament. He did very well in the show ring for Poul. I remember Poul telling me he was a once in a lifetime dog. At this time Poul also showed an Otter Hound ‘Tess’ who was a great ambassador for the breed, which at that time was very low in numbers and at risk of being lost.
Poul was a well-known and well-respected judge both here and abroad. When he last judged in Sweden, he sent me a marked-up catalogue so that I could write about the event in the Dog World notes. Poul, retired from judging after his appointment at Driffield 2016. His retirement came after a period of health issues.
Poul was a lovely man, who had a great sense of fun and loved teasing almost everyone. He will be missed and we shall miss his deep knowledge of our breed too.
As I am sure you will now be aware that there was no money to pay for a funeral and that his friend, Gavin Robertson arranged a fund-raising page via face book which due to the generosity of friends and clubs which Poul had been associated with, the target was reached. So, on Poul’s behalf I would like to thank all those who kindly donated. Poul’s Funeral is next Monday the 8th of April. I shall pass on more details when I know them.
The 24th March was the first of the Club Championship Shows, hosted by the Shih Tzu Club of South Wales and Western Counties at Swindon, judged by Vikki Grugan. There was a total entry of 92 with 10 absent. The Dog CC his third and crowning went to Sue and David Crossley’s Santosha Cool Hand Luke. He is by Ch Santosha Sandcastle ex Santosha Warrior Queen. The Dog RCC his first went to Jean Rutter’s Chanikos Living The Dream at Ethelsmead; he is by Ethelsmead Life Of Riley JW ex Chanikos Dreams A Brewin. BPD went to Janine and Stacey Scott’s Honeyshuchun The Star Lord who is by Ch Honeyshuchun God Of Thunder ex Honeyshuchun Star Maiden. BVD went to my Tsantha Happy As Larry With Hajenza, he is by Tsantha’s Happy To See Me ex Tsantha Prima Ballerina. BIS went to Zeeva Shadow Dancing With Meilijo, RBIS and BOS went to Ch Santosha Cool Hand Luke ( subject to KC confirmation) BPIS went to Marpalyn Phab Gold and BVIS went to Tsantha Happy As Larry With Hajenza.
That is all for now.

Jackie Bowns went to Sweden over the weekend to judge the Shih Tzu Club of Sweden Specialty Championship Show. Jackie has very kindly sent me the following report:
Shih Tzu Speciality Sweden 30th June 2018
To be asked to judge a breed you adore is very special. To be asked to judge in other country is a great honour. I was so excited to receive the invite from the Shih Tzu Club in Sweden. What a friendly happy club this is, excellent sportsmanship with all the exhibitors. The venue at Tanga Hed was perfect with plenty of space in the ring and a lovely sight with all the tents around, something we do not see in the UK. So many lovely prizes to be won as well. I was introduced to my ring stewards for the day. They worked so hard to keep me on track and to help me through the day, it’s not easy following a different system and doing a critique there and then for every dog but we got through it. I had the company of a student judge and it was a pleasure to work with her. The entry number of over 90 was amazing, and I was very honoured by it, this meant I was not able to judge the puppies as Swedish KC rules are maximum 80 dogs but sitting and watching them the future is bright. I said on the day that breeders in Sweden should be very proud. The quality from the beginning was breath-taking and I was so spoilt for choice, at times it became difficult to choose. But as a judge choose you must and the difficult decisions were made. My best dog was Nellie-Nette’s Lets Play Rock – he was also BIS A very stylish black and white who was so balanced and moved beautifully. He became a Swedish Champion on the day. Best Bitch was Art Made Marilyn Monroe – A quite stunning gold and white bitch who is everything a shih tzu should be. I understand she is now also a Swedish Champion The following day we attended an all-breed championship show in Bora and what a site that was every ring was surrounded by tents and at time it was difficult to see anything. A most fabulous weekend and one that I won’t ever forgot.
Jackie Bowns
I noticed that at a show the day after, Marilyn’s Mother Art Made Hollywood Frame Of Mind was BB and Marilyn was 2nd BB. Just in case you didn’t know; Ch Art Made Marilyn Monroe is the litter sister to Maureen Hatten and Sandra Cooke’s new champion Ziggy aka Art Made Gene Kelly.
That is all I have for this week.

On Saturday, Sue and her Sistasu team went to Carmarthen CS Open Show. Sistasu Silver Top won BOB and Group 2. A new member of the team Rosco, aka Sistasu Silver Storm at his very first show went BPIB, 1st AV Utility Puppy, VHC Utility Puppy Stakes and UPG 4. Very well done.
Yesterday at Eastbourne and District Open Show; Steve Jones was the breed judge. The Gladmin team had a successful day. The young Pretender, Chumlee, aka Gladmin Soweto Storm again went BOB and Gladmin Transkei Teddy JW was RBOB. Sadly, no group placing for Chumlee he was feeling the heat. Chumlee’s litter brother Alfie, came along for the day to visit too.
I need to make an apology to Pat Maule, for an error in my last notes. I got the results of The Royal Cheshire Show off Fosse Data. Unfortunately, it was incorrect. The RBOB should have been Pat’s D. Kwakwali and not Zena’s Kadaz I’m Nagen as stated last week. I only found the mistake when I read Diane’s Smith’s critique. It is still incorrect on Fosse. So, a belated well done to Wallie on his RBOB.

Shih Tzu Breed Notes 4th April 2018
Firstly, I must apologise for the length of time between my last notes and these. Things have not been running as smoothly as I would like both at home and work. Thank you for your patience.

Best wishes also to Janine Scott, who is currently recovering from surgery. We hope that you are back to full strength before too long.
Pat Maule and her Daltricia Team had a very busy Easter weekend, attending 3 shows. The first, on Saturday; Bristol & District Dog Club. There wasn’t a big entry of Shih Tzu but Daltricia Wilbur Smith JW ShCM won BOB, the apprentice, Daltricia Kwakwali won Post Grad, BPPG1 & £10 Royal Canin Voucher under judge Martin Sanders. He won 3rd in Puppy Stakes under Mike Vines winning a bottle of white wine, 2nd in Junior Stakes under Sheena Booth winning a bottle of red wine and finally 3rd in Post Grad Stakes under Celia Vines winning an Easter Egg. I also read recently that Teigan and Alana had been awarded the YKC Fundraisers of the year. Raising £5000.00 for TLC Teddies For Loving Care and Cancer Research Wales. Very well-done girls, keep up the good work.
At Chertsey Open Show on Good Friday Kirsty Tod’s new puppy made her debut. Unfortunately, there were only 2 Shih Tzu. However, apparently Cedarhythe Rumours Darlin At Kengai aka Rumour, went very well and was awarded BP, BOB and PG3 and £10 for her piggy bank. Well Done.
I don’t know if anyone is able to help. Ken Hassall, Daphne’s husband has been diagnosed with a tumour on his spine. He is very poorly. Daphne needs to be with Ken but is worried about her dogs. Is there anyone who could foster these dogs in full coat who need to be kept together to help Ken and Daphne out? If you think you might be able to help, please contact Glenda Gilkes or Linda Somers. Thank you.
That is all I have for now.

I must end with some sad news; Eileen Wilson (Delridge) died on 22nd of February she was 95 yrs. Eileen was a stalwart of the Manchu. Many of you will remember her at the Club Shows usually manning the raffle until relatively recently. The one dog of Eileen’s that comes to mind is Delridge Golden Orion. I don’t really know why I remembered him, unless I saw Eileen showing him. One interesting fact though, is that he is the GG sire on the dam’s side of Ch Weatsom My Fair Lady of Hashanah which just happened to be Judy Franks’s first Shih Tzu who I remember judging when she was a 6-month-old puppy. I don’t have any funeral details. We send our sincere condolences to her family and friends.
