Pharaoh Hounds –
PHARAOH HOUNDS – February 2020
Sadly, these notes have been very hard to write because as I’m sure most Pharaoh people know, we lost a truly good and warm-hearted man on the thirteenth of February. The shock and upset at Graham Reeve’s sudden passing has affected a lot of people in the breed, and our collective, deepest sympathy must go to his family and friends. Graham will be greatly missed around the shows with his cheery smile and troupe of hounds running alongside his mobility scooter. Always fair in his comments and opinions, he never took sides in disagreements and allowed things to just flow and find a level. He served for many years on the PHC committee and will not be easily replaced, especially for his talents as show photographer. He was a good amateur photographer and apart from dogs, aircraft, Thames barges and the river landscapes near his home in Greenhithe were favourites subjects.
My apologies if my notes are a bit sketchy but here is a short resume of Graham’s life in Pharaoh hounds:
He and his late wife Janet started out in showing with a pack of Beagles under the affix ‘Anjeever’ and this was essentially Jan’s hobby until a Pharaoh Hound came along. The puppy bitch, Akhanubis Nettikurti was from a litter bred by Mr & Mrs L. Goodman (09/06/2004), and under their new affix – ‘Annatefkah’ – she would become the foundation for a new Reeves family. Akhanubis Nettikurti With Annatefkah showed well, gaining a JW in Oct.2005 and a ShCM in Aug.’06. Another bitch was bought in from Sweden in 2006 – Xemxija Charlotte Gray For Annatefkah (‘Lottie’). Sadly, Jan passed away in 2008 and up to then, all the Pharaohs had been in her name so Graham then became their owner. A further import (from the USA) followed in the shape of Akhanubis Across The Pond To Annatefkah (‘Florrie’). Graham became a regular exhibitor at Open and Champ shows, making many friends along the way. He found this was the social and hobby outlet he needed and began breeding plans for Pharaohs, gaining KC Assured Breeder status along the way.
So firstly, ‘Kurti’ was mated to Ch.AmCh. K’Azar Ggtu Ty Unas At Talkaccatur, and produced a litter of eight males on 17 Aug.09. The second Annatefkah litter was born to ‘Lottie’ (by A. Ashai – a dog from the first litter) in Sept. 2010. Graham’s last litter was born in 2013 to Ch. A. Bennu (Tessie – from the 2nd litter) by Ch. Xo’s Invincible (imp). This was the most successful litter, producing four champions. Hopefully, future winners will appear from the families that Graham helped in no small way to create, and are going to keep his legacy going. Bless you Graham, and thank you for your contribution to UK Pharaohs. Rest In Peace.
At this time, no funeral arrangements have been announced but be assured that Graham’s remaining three dogs, Tessie, Phuscia & Phreddie, have all been happily re-homed via the PHC’s Rescue & Rehoming help.
Pharaoh Hounds – August #1
So, into August and still very warm and dry for a good part of the country but I hope you are able to get out and enjoy your holidays.
Just to catch up on the latter part of July – After East of England the Houndshow took place at Stafford showground on its new earlier date of 14 July. I miss it being on the first Saturday in August but at least there is the chance now to do Paignton show as well instead of having to choose. BOB & DCC at the Houndshow was awarded to Simon Tien Hansen and ‘Storm’ - Multi Ch. Bazinga A Storm Of Swords (Nor) by judge Zola Rawson and followed by BIS-3 from Marie Bryce-Smith. ‘Storm’ has collected two CCs now so I’m guessing Simon will return and try for his GB Ch. Title.
The BCC was a great surprise – Lyncris Dizzy Miss Lizzy of Kurriera ShCM, owned by myself and Michelle Cappelaere, ‘Mitzi’ won from Veteran and was kindly handled in the challenge by her breeder, Christine Dawson as I was showing the youngster.
Best Puppy - Laura & Sam’s dog, Reedly Road Rochlyn to Ynchreenoo also got shortlisted in the Puppy Group – well done.
At Leeds show, there was a blip in the weather with some thunderstorms around Harewood but hound day was OK with slightly cooler conditions and we were able to make use of all the ring, in and out. BOB & BCC went to Ch. Serenaker Khamsin; DCC to Ch. Kurriera Orlando At Lyncris and Res.DCC & BP to R. R. Rochlyn to Ynchreenoo. Res.BCC went to Hansen’s Bazinga Desert Dragoness. (judge, Ben Reynolds-Frost)
Results from Paignton last weekend: Judge, Pam Mottershaw awarded BOB to Fantasa Chicago Bull (Mrs E. Dunhill) & BB to Mrs Dodd’s Ta Fazolu Lucija Tal Doucai (imp) & BP to newcomer Mrs C Worrall’s, Litlars Niju Monarch Bluesmurf (imp). Bournemouth has an entry of four at Bournemouth this weekend and at WKC, Mrs Jill Peak has an entry of 27. Also this weekend is the World Dog Show in Amsterdam including a Sight Hound Speciality. I am going on an organised trip as a spectator, so hope to include a report in my next breednotes. Good Luck to all and travel safely.
July/August All Ch. Show results are available on the Internet so I won’t go through all the winners, but this new vehicle for breed notes does allow more flexibility as regards Open shows, so do let me know of your wins if you don’t want to post on your own pages. I don’t know about you, but I really miss Dog World - apart from their strict editing when wanting to avoid printing details of Open shows; some of the contributors now have their own FB space – but it’s not quite the same as picking up the paper. At Leeds Ch. Show we managed to avoid the heavy rain because we were first in the ring. Peter Jolley had a good entry and chose Laura Merryweather & Sam Fletcher’s German import bitch, Killarney’s Heartland B Like Brooke Shields for BOB. This was also her 3rd CC so we have a new Champion, congratulations to breeder Julie Seiger. Alongside Leeds show, but later in the afternoon (awaiting vacant rings I believe) was Border Cos Hound Club Open show. The judge for Pharaohs was Kate Broadhead – such a pity that she had just two entries despite over twenty Pharaohs being at that venue. How do judges get to go over several examples of a breed and expand their knowledge, move up the ladder, if we don’t enter the opens? I can see that people with champion dogs thought they shouldn’t or didn’t need to, and everybody else went home. So BOB then, was Kurriera Tamara De Lempicka. Next was the Hound Association at Stafford where once again, the black clouds threatened to spoil it. Pharaohs were in first again and Barbara Brooker had a nice entry of 24 with 5 absent. It was very good to see some new entries from abroad and a brother and sister puppy pair (Mesmerizing Manhattan at A, x Vaskurs Rixa Qiwidotter) from Peter Rizman’s ‘Arsinoe’ affix in Slovakia. These two are owned by Merryweather & Fletcher and the bitch won BP. A big welcome for Simon Tien Hansen over from Norway who took top honours with his homebred young dog, Bazinga Baratheon of Dragonstone (BOB) and Bazinga Behold The Dragon’s Inferno won the RBCC. Lovely dogs and double congratulations as Simon has been married for just a week, doing the Swedish Speciality show then over to the UK, nice honeymoon! Plenty of entries for Espen Engh next week at WKC, including some more new puppies. We’re third in ring 2 after Bloodhounds and Otterhounds; let’s hope for better weather, yes, even in Wales the sun can shine! Travel safely. Yvonne Ashby
Firstly results from City of Birmingham where we were judged by Sue Hewitt Chambers. Dog CC his first, was Mr P Kiernan's Ostseerunners Big Ben, RDCC was Jill Morris's Ch Tonispada Ozymandias Anharbn. Later in the day the younger boys did us all proud – for the first time a best Junior group was scheduled where Ch Tonispada Ozmandias Anharbn went Group 3 but the star of the day was Fantasa Dallas Maverick who won the Puppy Hound Group – great going boys.
This week is Richmond where Sue Ergis has drawn an entry of 6. Good luck to all going and safe travels.

In Builth Wells for WKC, we had a mixed bag of weather- when it wasn’t pouring it was quite nice in the sun! Likewise at judging time, it started off sunny and was interrupted by a downpour but we were at least able to use the whole of the in-out ring. Espen Engh chose Morris’s Ch. Annatefkah Tabitha Anharbn for BCC & BOB, while litter brother ‘Phreddie’, Annatefkah Tum was awarded his first CC, both hounds bred by Graham Reeve. BPIB was Kurriera Krystal Amethyst, making a debut at her very first show. Whilst BV was her aunt Mitzi, Lyncris Dizzy Miss Lizzy of K. Madelene Lonn (Enigma) was over from Sweden with her new bitch, Enigma Serendipity, who won RBCC and she also won BV with her Basenji. Madelene then travelled to Ireland where her efforts were rewarded by winning (so far..!) at Killarney, G2; at Clonmel BOB and today at Limerick, a G3, with Kate Harbinson’s Enigma Quite A Showgirl, RBOB. That’s a trip that was well planned, so well done!
At City of Birmingham next Friday, breed judging follows the Hunting Dogs of Ancient Egypt open show in rings 11/12, Hall 3. Sue Hewart-Chambers has an entry of 17 for the Ch. Show.
Entries closing soon for: Bedford Open, PH breed judge Charlotte Ayres-Cousins; PHC Open, judge Brenda Herbert; Hitchin Open (October), breed judge Julien Barney. All available to enter on Fosse data.

BCC was Sadie and Graham Thomas's Ch Annatefkah Thema at Rubasu handled by Rebecca.
RBCC was Simon Hansens Bazinga Behold the Dragons Inferno. Having come all the way from Norway with 3 dogs Simon had a great day taking BOB DCC and RBCC.
The following day was Paignton but no CC's on offer here. BD BOB & BP was Alex Cole's Doucai's Iben Zeijtun, RBD Marie Richmonds Ch Naqada Never Say Never. BB was Brenda Herberts Annatefkah Tauret at Darusmar and RBB was Alex Cole and Helen Dodd's Ta'Fazolu Lucija Tal Doucai (Imp)
So our next big one is WKC on the 18th Aug where it appears many of us are camping – lets hope we have good weather. Breednotes may be late as our family is also joining the happy campers!
Remember that entries for the PHC open show can be done on line with Fosse Data – our judge is Brenda Herbert and Matt will once again be cooking the food.
