Italian Spinone Breed Notes

Italian Spinone

Italian Spinone
23rd May and it has been some time since I put "pen to paper" but there really isn't much to talk about.
I did however receive a fab letter here the other day with an Awards card and trophy in the post note from the Italian Spinone Club GB.
Our ShCh & Multi Ch Redrue Cherriecola to Chandhally is Top Veteran 2019 .
Wow absolutely over the moon and I can only say a BIG THANK YOU to all the Judges who has given Lola BV's and a number of them was with RBCC's at her age ( 9 1/2 now in june )..Thank you soooo much again

We have been in self isolation since just after Crufts and luckily have friends who do our shopping.Send them a text with the shopping list, put the wheelborrow outside the gate for them to put the shopping in, have a long chat , put shopping in quarantine - Great.I hate shopping anyway so this is even better.
Main worry is making sure we have plenty food for the dogs and crossing fingers that the freezers don't pack up. This is also the first time in over 20 years that we are not going abroad in the summer to dog shows and seeing friends and family. It is not easy when the family lives so far away but we have Snap Chats and Face time which helps greatly
All dog shows so far are cancelled or postpond across UK and abroad so that is good for the bank account but like so many in this hobby of ours it is the friendships that we miss big time and obviously showing off our dogs.
How will Crufts look next year with no puppies qualifying ,so no puppy classes but how about all the other hopefulls that has not qualified at shows attend !!
Wonder what the entries will be for the first Ch show that will open it's "doors" this year - Or will Manchester 2021 be the first Ch Show to go ahead?
There are so many uncetainties with regards to the COV and will we feel safe if we do go back to the shows? Is it worth the risk and worries? Time will tell.
There is an " vertual " open show on line that seems to be very populare- though I have not got into that side.
Dog walking has been most interesting. We have seen people coming up past us walking their dogs that nobody around here knows. It isn't a place where you you turn up in a car, park and walk but where do this lot live in our village? I know most of the dogs here and these ones !! have no idea but might be pets that has never ventured outside their garden and now all of a sudden they are taken for a walk. What a shock for the dogs.A walk.!! Most annoying thing is that the dogs are not socialised and have zero training and some are rather aggressive. Not nice at all.We go late in the evening and actually have headlights with us.Great .We also hope in the car as the car also need a quick drive down to the fields.
The other crazy thing is that we are absolutely inundated with puppy enquieries and so are so many of our dog friends.
Why do they want a Puppy hmmm?? so they can have their kids entertained? and what happens when UK gets back to normal and they have to get back to work and school and have no one to walk the dog or it isn't fun any more? Dumped I guess, clubs drowned in "no longer wanted "- ?
A DOG IS FOR LIFE NOT JUST FOR COV !!!
I can only say that any reputable breeder in their right mind would not have a litter at this time.
Well here is something for you all to look forward to in 2021 and do note there are a few first timers giving CC's

Where oh where do I start? Do I start with the" bad" new or something totally different? There might not be any breed notes for a while unless I have some info for you.
ISCGB has Cancelled the Club's Ch Show on the 28th March .. It is all there on the Spinone Web site.
Ok I am diving in with the bad stuff first and then I will hopefully make you smile a bit or go ohhh I never knew that as I do have a surprice for you.
Sad news but at the same time I am really pleased Numerous Dog Shows are Cancelled inc WELKS (Wonder if we get our money back ) as this is something that is out of our controle. If you pay by credit card check with them to see if you can get your money back.If oyu don't ask you don't get
You can find out about cancelled shows by going onto Fossdata or Dogbiz
It isn't worth the risk of attending or holding shows untill this has run it's course. If you look at it,I am not going to say the majority is but a huge amount of exhibitors that are going to the Open shows are pensioners and perhaps more at risk than the younger generations?.

All dog shows including the World Show and any events, schools, kindergartens and many offices are closed or cancelle, airports, trains and ferries- in other words a complete - Lockdown - across Europe and Scandinavia and it is policed. If you break the Lockdown you are fined so why ohh why doesn't Britain think it isn't needed or doesn't apply to them untill now ? I am not going into politics but it is bonkers.
Interesting one for you here though. Most Norwegians --- yes I know --why am I mentioning this, but it is really interesting ---have a cottage/cabin/lodge what ever you want to call it.. many took off to their holiday homes when Norway declared a Lockdown.. well you would have thought that was great but I was amazed to hear that people have been told to return to their homes and if they do not they will be removed by the army and fined - as the small local hospitals wouldn't be able to cope with that amount of people that has "moved" if there was an outbreak. My daughter was one of them, they had come up to the mountains the day Norway declared complete lockdown just to be told to go back home..

Aaaahh now the really interesting one..
Was watching a bit of TV on Monday night.16th March .BBC 2 Beauty Queens and Bedlam ..well I sat up and shouted I know him !! I know him .. Husband says Who ?? Him I shouted .. its Peter Jolly .. no way !! I rewind, looked ,.I rewinded again and shouted its Peter Jolly yes there he was. Did you know he used to be a dancer ?? and a jolly good one too ,but he was also the Mecca Representative and the P A for Miss World 1970 and was there in the middle of the action when the Women's Lib tried to sabotage the Miss World and that is what that program was all about. Peter was "interviewed" at lenghte about the event and a lot of footage with him in it with people like Bob Hope, Michael Aspen Danny La Rue,Eric Morley and numerous other extremely well known celebs.I had no idea !! Bet most people in the dog world didn't know.At the end of the program is a great picture of Peter doing what he loves -- Judging.
I must say it very saddened when Peter decided to stop judging. One of the very few well known all rounders that judged the dog and not what is at the end of the lead .A judge that I always respected and had a good chat with.

Only show result for you

Hampshire Gundog Club held on the 15th march and Helen Sutton judged.
BOB was Sherril Dewar's Macarica Harry’s Rock (JW) who also went 3rd BIS.The RBOB went to Rita Allum's Macarica Toscanini

9th March and Crufts finally over for this year. It's a show I both Hate and Love.Getting there and finding a parking space over the hills and far away these days.East Car Park a real pain in the back side.It used to be so easy when you could park at the West car park.Easy getting to hall 4.
Why not park at Train station some says..Yeah could do ,I thought about it this time but I got in the wrong lane coming off the Motorway and nobody let me in ,so did the "long shortcut" and suddenly found myself way ahead of the car's that didn't want to let me in..Ha! me no mug--but I ended up at the East Car park.. oh well. Nice 15 minutes walk anyway and it gave us all a bit of fresh air both coming and going.
Didn't see much of this "health issue " stuff that Crufts had been banging on about. No sanitizers anywhere, apparently people took them ,they ran out of soap in some of the dispencer and were very slow at replenishing that.I must admitt I have never seen sooo many people washing their hands and drying them.
Yea I know, me organized but I brought my own stuff, liquid and wipes.and yepp sad old me even wiped the dogs down..Why .. I have no idea.Only saw 2 people wearing masks. To be honest I don't think people were that worried . perhaps we should but life must go on.

There was a minute silence for Jean Houltram and Geraldine had provided food. Most touching.
It was a long day as we didn't start till 10.30. Good that we were not in a massive rush getting there but ohhhh it was a slow going !!
Crufts was held on the 6th March and it was a bit more quiet this year and not as crowded as normal, think some stayed at home plus the big bonus - Hall 4 is somewhat away from the stalls.

Our Judge was Kim Parris (Bonario) and she had an entry of 117-126. Her BOB & BCC was Nikki Whitlow's Sh Ch Gradevole Galli
with RBCC going to Karen James's Sh Ch Inostricani Fiorella (JW ShCM ShCEX). The DCC was Kerry Giles's Sh Ch Gradevole Giovana
and the RDCC was awarded to Cathy Gill's Ch Teazledown Moonwalker at Jocagil (JW ShCM)
BP was Spence's Gradevole Signor Pi and BV went to Rachael Blythe's Sh Ch Talpalupo Ettore

Now here is a question for you. I was watching Hearthbeat here the other day, never seen it before but there is this lovely docked W/O Spin.Think it is a bitch but might well be wrong on that ,so who's dog is it? I would love to know.
Today I also saw an advert for VW Tourag ( I think) and i think there is a Spin in that advert too ,it isn't that clear as it is a "darkish night " (could be a heinz ,you know a mix in of the curley type but it doesn't look like on ) It isn't that easy to see but make and shape suggests it is a Spin or do I need glasses?
That’s it for now.

Deadline for the Club Show is Thursday 12th March 12 NOON Dogbiz

3rd March and Spring has finally Sprung !! We have wonderful sunshine and we are working on some of our fences as the storms took down a few and wabbled some of the new ones we had put up about 1 month ago.Dug everything up again, yes and with the help of the fourlegged variety , concreted down again and putting extra support in so fingers crossed it will stay up this time.

Real pain in the backside as with the fencing down the dogs have been a bit limited or perhaps I should say - Not allowed out in the front without somebody there as there were places they could have got out or a handsom male could have tried his luck. Not much chance of that here but you never know. Bitch in season and that was no fun. A right little tease this one and even going across the fields has been a bit of a challenge. There are nobody there but the little critter could have legged it and …welll.. !! She didn't but nature does what nature does.

Crufts on Friday so shall be interesting to see who turns up with all this stuff going on especially all the "foreign "exhibitors and their dogs. Will they be allowed to travel? Will they be allowed into UK ? Will anybody stop them and see if they are fit and healty enough to pass? Will Crufts be cancelled? Who knows..So far it is still going ahead..

24th Feb and I will start my notes today by Thanking Geraldine for the words about Jean and for putting up that wonderful photo of Jean showing her much loved Spinone. I count myself lucky for having been Jeans friend for many years .Jean took me under her umberella or should I say wings and was my mentor after Heather McKie (Redrue) passed away all those years ago.I shall miss our coversations and banter.R.I.P my dear friend.I do not do funerals but I will be there at Crufts and I will say my thanks to Jean for allowing me in and for being my friend and I will do it in my own little way.
Little to report from this side.Fed up with the horrid wet and windy weather.Pigging wet and dirty dogs.So glad that the Spins are such a relaxed breed.Think they would have done my head in if they were of the demanding type.Had 30 odd years of that with the Dalmatians.
Had entered a show on Saturday but having a bitch in full season and 1 lame dog well what was the point so stayed at home getting depressed.Log fire on, dogs sleeping ahhh what better than a bottle of plonk? nehhh not in the mood, so had a bucket of tea and tried to snuggled up with the girls on the floor instead.Yeah that lasted 1 minute till Reb desided that she was in the mood for playing..Well that was the end of that.I know my place.Sofa for me ,floor and comfy bed for them.Never mind.
Some show results for you and it is good to see that finally more Open Shows are putting on a class or two for us.
Ilfracombe & DCS was held on the 15th and the judge was Louise Kones ( Braemist) Her BOB went to Phil Kruglows Amberellie Adrianna
Matlock & DCS was held on the 18th and it was Kerry Holt judging and her BOB was Karen James's Sh Ch Inostricani Fiorella (JW ShCM ShCEX) with Debbie Wagh's Prottino Del Vera by Dewdhala taking RBOB.BP was awarded to Val Woodward's Connomar Robiola
Next out we had Newark & DCS on the 22nd and it was Colin Woodward in charge of the ring and his BOB & BP was Karen Bovio's lsolo Fiorello with RBOB going to Lesley Coldwell's Lucoru Italian Jasmine
Sutton Coldfield CS was also held on the 22nd and here it was Jean Byrne judging. Her BOB was Karen James's Sh Ch Inostricani Fiorella (JW ShCM ShCEX)
Finally we had Yorkshire Gundog Club which was on the 23rd and Kris Littlemore was judging the Spins. Her BOB was Hodgson's
Osulf Peanut Chunky Kit Kat and RBOB was Osulf Sugar Cookie also owned by Hodgson
BP went to Karen Bovio's Ilsolo Fiorello
So there we have it for now

JEAN HOULTRAM 04.09.50 - 07.02.20 RIP
I am so very sorry to share the saddest news with friends of Jean Houltram that she has died.
All who knew Jean will realise that her dogs were her world and I can assure you that they are safe and well.
Jean had been ill for some time and was recently diagnosed with Cancer. She was sometimes the most frustrating woman I had ever met but she was also incredibly kind and thoughtful. Founder member number 1 of the Italian Spinone Club of Great Britain, Caldocani Spinoni were known worldwide. and her many contacts were in awe of the sheer wealth of her internal database of pedigrees, facts and figures.
Her knowledge of Italian Spinoni was unparalleled , her stories unique and engaging and the true grit of her determination was inspiring.
In so many ways Jean was akin to her beloved Spinoni, stubborn, intuitive, a natural affinity with the earth and a loyal friend but a dreadful enemy. Jean rarely let people get close to her, I feel honoured to be counted amongst the small group of people she regarded as true friends
I shall miss her dearly as others will too.
I will post details of any celebration of her life in due course and I am available to close friends of Jean's should they wish to exchange thoughts over the coming days.
Jean, reunited with so many dogs that she loved, just the other side of the door marked Summer.
Details for Jean's Funeral service.
Monday 16th March 2020
9.30 am
Rainsbrook Crematorium, Ashlawn Rd, Rugby CV22 5QQ
Please message or call me if you intend to attend as the chapel is restricted to numbers.
Family flowers only please, donations to Italian Spinoni Rescue & Rehome will be very welcome in Jean's name.
Maureen, Jean's Mother is very grateful for all the messages which I have relayed to her regarding her loss.
There will not be an after funeral gathering, instead it is the intention of her friends to hold a wake at Crufts amongst her beloved Italian Spinoni. Details to follow

18th of Feb and what and absolutely horrible week-end this has been.Wind and rain, rain and more rain. Here we had 16 cm of rain in 48 hrs and so much flooding .All the rivers around here flooded.

We have been very lucky but our neighbours were flooded and under 1/2meter of water.Thankfully everybody are ok as well as all their pets. What is really bad is the sewrage that comes with it and the clean ups. There were no flood warnings for here so this came as a shock in the early hours of Sunday morning.

We ventured out to the fields yesterday, the dogs haven't been out for a few days because of all the rain.Stuck their heads outside the kitchen door, did their stuff and came back in totally soaked.I don't blame them for not wanting to go out ,so yes they were very restless.

The weather brightened up a tad so we decided to get to the fileds. The fields looked ok from the road but as we started getting down onto them, what a sight.Tree trunks,a massive cable drum ,bales of hay way across 6 fields. The silt and debries just amazing and really scary to see what power and damage the rivers do.

We went to check on the beehives that are there, most gone in the floods. However 6 for what ever reason stood. The flood waters had gone on either side of them. How is that even possible?

The dogs were charging around the "very clean swept" fields.Lots of interesting smells obviously, nothing there but the odd pile of silt and debries in the hedges. One thing that we also noticed was the lack of birds. The fields are normally full of them.Anything from sparrows to herons, so Rebel and Lola didn't have anything to chaise or point at.For once not one rolled and we actually had clean dogs going back to the car, wet but clean ohh that’s just marvelous..A good hosedown of the dogs when we got home as after all, all flood waters contain as I mentioned sewrage. You just cannot be careful enough.

Have you seen the "news" from the KC regarding Crufts and all the extra health measures being put in regarding the Coronavirus.Lots of sanitising going on at the NEC and will be available around the venue.

Remember what has always been said when you were little ?

Coughs and sneezes - spreds diseases.Hand in front to the mouth when you cough and sneeze and clean your hands.Well how many does that these days? Blow your schnosss ( noses darlings !! ) in tissue paper and bin it. Wash hands aswell?.

Just wonder about our pets? Do we have to sterilize them aswell.?

I have those big packs of floor 99% germ and virus killer floor wet wipes in the car purely because when they role in something not nice they are so handy, quick wipe, sort of less stinking dogs that gets put back in the car and it goes in the bin.!!

Are we getting toooo clean so we have no antibodies with all this cleaning that we "have" to do?

Well we have dogs ,they eat stuff that is rotten, they clean their bits ,role in stuff, drag muck into the house and we cuddle them and give them kisses? What's the point of fumigating when you have a dog?

Sadly I have to tell you that Breed Specialist and Judge Jean Houltram of the Caldocani Spinoni has passes away.

Still quiet across the world of dog shows so not much to report there.

Merseyside Gundog Club held their Open Show on the 3rd and it was Jan Clark judging the breed and her BOB went to Berry's Affilato Love Me Tender.RBOB and BP was Karen Bovio's Ilsolo Fiorello

Next out was Plymouth & DCS and Karen Richardson judged and her BOB went to Lyn Mortimer's Scodinzolare Perlescenti with the RBOB awarded to Phil Kruglow's Amberellie Adrianna

10th February and what a week this has been and still is.Weather absolutely crazy.Very wet and windy with some really heavy rumbles inbetween it all.So glad our old massive pine trees had to come down 1 year ago.No worries now about them coming down on the house or car.

We have spent some time now putting up new fencing and we did a fab job of it too I hasten to add.We were sooo proud of all those hours slaving away and now--- Gone with the Wind---.Lola and Rebel are over the moon because now they can see the BIRDS again that are hiding in the hedge and they are both so focused on the Sparrows that are teasing them flittering in and out there in the Bamboo…yoohooo now you see me, now I am over there .So when the weather settles it's back to putting up the fences again.Ohh joy.

We went over the fields today. The dogs haven't been out for their daily charges these past few days as they have had enough sence to stand there in the doorway going - on your bike- not going out..So they have litterally just put four paws outside the door and come back in again.

The dogs went ferral across the fields.Anything flying and they were off after it ,so now there are three dogs flat out infront of the fire.Bliss.If I am lucky i migh even get a slightly longer sleep in the morning..Ohhh wishfull thinking.

So what else have we got going on ? Again very quiet on the show side and have you noticed how many critiques from the shows here in UK incl Belfast ) that are not forthcoming !! from 2019 I have counted 42 and 6 from 2020…I think I might have to do a name and shame in the breed notes? Do you think they would care ?

Anyway here are a few show results for you.

Newton Abbot & South Devon CS which was on the 25tyh Jan and judge was Josephine Pinfold and her BOB went to Phil Kruglow's

Amberellie Adrianna and RBOB was Lyn Mortimer's Scodinezolare Perlescenti

We had Coalville & Dist CS on the 26th and here it was Graham Fordham (Cloudnine) that judged and his BOB went to Leanne and Mark Challand's ShCh Mistyayre Gigolo for Annilann (ShCM) with the RBOB going to Julie Kelly & Keith Wain's Lajatico Aida

On the 1st of Feb it was Isle of Ely and it was Elaine Thomas (Claramand) judging and she found her BOB in Karen James's Sh Ch Inostricani Fiorella (JW ShCM ShCEX) and RBOB going to Barratt's Affilato Happy Ever After at Barold

So that’s it for this time .

Well here we are then 3rd of Feb and BREXIT is done so it shall be interesting to see what the "new rules" if any will come about regarding Travelling with pets .Nothing will happen for quite some time yet but you just don't know.I keep looking on DEFRA's web site but looks like they know as much about it as I do. Watch this space !!

I didn't do the breed notes last week as there was absolutely nothing to report on.Dogs behaving and doing well.

What else has been happening around the world of dogs? Not much really.very quiet on the show side so no show results as such and not much happening around the place in general.

I did attend Lichfiled Canine Soc on the 25th Jan where our Judge for the Italian Spinone was Mr Richard Morris (Lascoed)

BOB went to Nina Fleming's NUCH/DKCH Chandhally Limon Cino and the RBOB also went to Nina Fleming and NUCH Chadhally Cockney Rebel.
BP was Karen Bovio's Ilsolo Fiorello

Julie Kelly's Lajatico Aida was 1st in Junior and 1st PG and I shall stand corrected here but I know she got placed both in the Junior Stakes where Marion Sargent (Tegwani) was the judge and in the Post Grad Stakes under judge Jeremy Goddard (Minard)

In the Gundog AV Veteran Stakes ( 16 entered and only 3 absent) Judge was Mrs Bridgette Bodie (Kitram) 1st Nina Fleming's ShCh,NUCH,DKCH,Int Ch Redrue Cherriecola to Chandhally and we went forward for BVIS but didn't get that but that’s OK.On the whole the Spins really had a fab day.

I think I better start getting the catalogues from the few shows I go to just so that I can atleast get the classes and results and get it out there

A reminder that the Schedule for the ISCGB's Ch show is available on line www.dog.biz and online entry closes 12th March 2020 12 noon. Our judge is Christine Bennett(Hochopepa) Subject to KC approval

The show is on Saturday 28th March .Venue is KC Building Stoneleigh Park.

Don't forget, if you like what you read then scroll down to the very, very ,very end of The Spinone Breed notes and you will find the various icons.Hope you will show your support by doing so.Any comments - please add that aswell.

It is great to get some sort of feedback and to know that somebody reads my notes..Thanks

20th Jan and I am sooo not a happy cookie.Had to have a little "ding-dong" with new Vet. Commenting on the Old Bats good teeth for her age-Now 9 years old - and I said yes thanks for that and nice of you to say so.The vet then said you brush her teeth don't you ?? I am toooo polite to say I hit the roof but I did in my head. No I said, she gets propper food you name it she eats it ,fruits, vegetables, left over what ever goes ,our dogs are our slopp buckets which also includs bones and dried fish.Well!! The Vet started a lecture of how bad that was for the dog and should only feed complete and give dental chews for good teeth hygene and all that stuff. I very politely said that if the dogs or any pet were supposed to have their teeth brushed they would have been given hands and would absolutely not have those fab canine teeth ,all the better to chew with.

Needless to say I did pass a comment to the boss whom I have known for a very long time and will have nothing more to do with that one- Not pleased about being lectured by a "20" year old that insists that "all inclusive" dog food is the only thing they should get -feeding rubbish which def ruins their teeth, makes them fat and contains stuff that NO canine would ever eat. Grains comes to mind

Better going to McDonald and get them burgers or some chicken stuff and a bag of sugar and salt than that rubbish .Rant over.

We have just had Manchester Ch Show where Keith Groom was judging the breed. We were 2nd in the ring.It took for ever. Why on earth did they put us 2nd after an entry of 88 Gordons? when were were 73/76 Spins? Sorry rant wasn't really over..

I arrived at the show after 11 am as it said not before so I didn't rush. Walking towards the venue i saw an exhibitor walking back to his car with trolly and stuff and obviously the dog , so I said ohh Gordons are done then ? To which the reply was No she hadn't even started on the bitches and you will have a long wait as she is slow..He was right.

Needless to say it was along long wait for our judge and us.By the time our Judge had come towards the end of the judging of the bitches they were calling for all BOB winners in Gundogs.Well if that isn't putting extra stress on the judge I don't know what will..

His BOB & BCC went to Claire and Lee Sharp's Affilato All About Me JW who also went G4 under group judge Dr Ronald W James
The RBCC was awarded to Rachael Blythe's Talpalupo Grazioso
The DCC was Giles's Sh Ch Gradevole Giovana with the RDCC awarded to Sherril Dewar's Macarica Harrys Rock Jw
BPIB award went to Whitlow's Gradevole Signorina Bianco and BVIB going to Nina Flemings Sh Ch NU Ch DK Ch Int Ch Redrue Cherriecola To Chandhally

We have the 13th January 2020 and what has been occuring? Not a lot really.I haven't been to dog shows for a while so really looking forward to Manchester at the weekend where Keith Groom has an entry of 73/76. We are 2nd in the ring after the Gordons and there are 88 of them to be judged- aparently.

Well I shall arrive fairly early, just in case traffic is slow and to make sure that the girls will be well and truly clean before entering the ring.

Thought I would mention a bit about vomiting and diarrehoea as it is pretty common in dogs but understanding why is sometimes a bit of a conundrum.Where have they been, what have they eaten or drunk? So I have sort of a check list of what to look for and what to do and when to get to the Vet and if any of these things applies.. Get to the VET and get it investigated ASAP

First thing is-Is there any blood?

Your pet does not want to move,is uncomfortable and in pain.Rather lethargic and not really interested in you or even respodning to you Signes of shaking, respotary problems and seizures .

Have not eaten or drunk for 24 to 36 hours .

Your pet has eaten some form of poison and that includes rat poison.

I have personal experience of the latter, happened some years ago in Norway and that was the worst thing I have ever come across.Luck isn't even the word I would use but I happened to notice one of the dogs nibbling at something which is not normal.I thought I would just look to see what it was and saw that it was blue in colour- Vet immediately- My sister knew what it was as they had put some rat poison down under the decking .We took box with the rat poison with us to the Vet so they knew what to give them.I did not know that Rat poisons are all different, it is not only one type of poison used so again luck for us that we had the packet .The vet pumped them full of some stuff ,I have no idea what it was but wow did they spew. Not an experience that I would like to repeat.Dogs were fine after a few day under Veterinary care.

However If your pet is resposive and sort of perky but you can't quite put your finger on it but know things are not right ? perhaps they have done the typical canine thing- scavanged as they do or picked up a virus.

Withold food for at least 4 hours since the last vomiting episode. If there is no vomit then feed bland food
This should speed up the recovery and are naturally easy on the stomach which is inflamed. Feed a small amount of food and make sure to check that it stays down for a few hours before you give another handfull

Only one Show for you and that is Boston & DCS Ch show which was on the 10th and Lee Sharp was judging the spins. However no Cc's on offer

His BOB ,BB & BP went to Karen Bovio's Ilsolo Fiorelli with the RBB awarded to Karen James's Sh Ch Inostricani Fiorella (JW ShCM ShCEX) BD was Sherril Dewar's Macarica Harry's Rock and RBD went to Culling's Locoru Here Comes Summer

Don't forget, if you like what you read then scroll down to the very, very ,very end of The Spinone Breed notes and you will find the various icons.

Hope you will show your suprive early port by doing so.Any comments - please add that aswell.

Here we are then 2020 and what will this year bring to us all I wonder.Top of wish list .

Critiques from shows that should have been out months and months ago?

More All rounders and foreigners to judge the breed and hopefully more Open shows putting on a Spin class or two? Yeah dream on.

Well it has been rather uneventful here over Xmas and New Year , well you know the traditional eat and drink far to much and feel stuffed and if you are like me I do not know how to cater for just a few.I feel like I have cooked for the whole village but no worries the dogs got all those yummy left overs and by golly did they love it.Little or no fireworks here which was great so the Old Bat was more chilled than ever.

Babs Davids had organised 2 Spin walks here in Wales.Couldn't do the boxing day one as we a party to go to,more food and drinks to consume but we went to the New Years day one and it was fab.Must have been a good 20/30 dogs spins and others .A few growls between some of the boys but that was it.We walked over the many sand dunes and down to the beach. The dogs really enjoyed themselves charging around with all the other dogs.Got onto the fab sandy beach that goes on for miles and it was full chagre into the sea .Lola and her son and daughter likes to "drink"sea water so they were just charging into the sea and lapping it.Can't stop them and it doesn't really bother them.Nature does what nature does.No point in shouting.

After a good 2 hour walk it was back to the car and the sand dunes followed us there too.Still there no matter how much i vaccume the car and the dogs. Yes you read correctly. This lot loves being vaccume cleand and they push eachother away to have their turn.So my red Henry eagerly vaccumes every part of the dogs. Sadly I am still brushing up sand in the kitchen.

I could have made a few sandpit's for the grandson with all this.Worst of all is that I still get sand between my toes. How? Ohh joy.

16th Dec and wondering what to talk about this time and then it came to me as I am sitting here proud as anybody can be .Why am I proud and what is the big deal? Big deal for me as Riva NUCh/DKCH Chandhally Limon Cino passed the Good Citizen Bronze with flying colours at LKA.I really didn't think she would be up to it but she proved me so wrong 100% pass didn't put a paw wrong and to top it all fame at last and we had our photo taken and it will be put in a well known doggy magazine- so I was told..
You see I just noticed as I was walking towards our hall a sign saying Good Citizen and thought carpe dium..why not see what happens. If it goes well I won't have 2 bitches in OB..Yippyyy.Then the let down when I got home to see how many shows have a Good Citizen Class just a hand full so I will still have 2 bitches in OB ahhh but not at Crufts yeaahhh.
Thankfully I do have some really good friends who are more than willing to handel on of them, for which I am really grateful. You are damned if you do and damned if you don't so which one would you leave at home alone as the Old bat is still enjoying the shows.
Xmas is closing in and I see no sign of any xmassy feeling. No snow and no cold.Just wet, rain, dark and stinky, dirty dogs and I have decided to re-register them for a while as brown roans.
The fields have yet again flooded so free hydro theraphy is back but so is all that glorious mud and rotting vegitation. They have now found a new snack, well they have always liked to eat it but rapeseed as new shoots. This is the old rotton stuff but ohhh are they smelly after eating it.I was told that it actully belonged to the broccoli family.Who knows. Can't stop them eating it when they are fields away.
Some show results for you .

9th Dec and no sign of any winter down this end.Still wet ,damp and I have really mucky dogs.Bring me snow so that I can have clean dogs.!!
So whats up otherwise? Well we have LKA this week end where Karen James is judging and she has an entry of 76 dogs. We are 3rd in the ring after GSP 41 & GWP with 14 ,well that is if they don't change their minds !
I have tried to pre-book the parking with the details that is in the LKA schedule but keep coming up with error or page not found.Ohh well full payment it is then unless I can get to it in the next few days some other way.Knowing my luck - no chance.

Other news ?

2nd December and full steam ahead for Xmas.Had the biggest shocker ever with the Spins.Having had Dalmatians for over 30 years, we always had to put food away and make sure they couldn't get into any bins or cupboards.Well this lot has never ever taken anything from the work benches,no matter how tempting or from tables or where ever food sits..well that was up til yesterday afternoon.
Don't know if you have ever seen the comedy movie- The Mask -(with Jim Carrie?) and where he sees this hot chick and the jaw drops to the floor...well that was me.We had friends over for a cuppa and my husband had made some almond slices and scones and as per usual sitting on the work bench.Jaw dropped when I went back into the kitchen for a top up , went out again and asked if he had put any away in the tins - friends sniggering - they have Dalmatians- he said NO ??? Puzzled.. well.half of the slices had gone and a few scones..Who looked guilty --Not one of them - hmmm so I had a sniff of their stinky beards-- ohh yes--The Old Bat.Was she ashamed - not at all just looked at me with those eyes-by this time friends in hysterics- Do we now we have to get used to putting food away - again..She wasn't even sick or had the squits--but I do hope that this was just one off.The other 2 wouldn't even consider nicking food from anywhere ,they even have to be invited to eat..well that is if they even want any food that day..Is it old age ?? She is 9 in less than a month?? Time to get naughty??
Mind you they are jummy especially when they are slightly warm,,Well less for us to eat.

Please have a read at this and take notes...
The number of cases of Alabama Rot – a flesh-eating disease which can be fatal to dogs , has increased in the past 12 months, with 17 confirmed incidents reported in 2019. The first reported case in England was in 2012 and 2014 in Wales. So far 140 cases has been reported, but there has been about 14 new suspected cases so far this year.
Areas including West Sussex, Greater Manchester, Dorset, Devon and Hampshire’s New Forest have seen many dogs diagnosed with the disease this year ,they have reported 14 suspected cases
Over the past few weeks, cases of Alabama Rot have been reported in smaller towns and villages including Southwater and Horsham in Sussex.
Alabama Rot, particularly as we’re entering the time of year when cases are most common"A further confirmed case means it is understandably very worrying for dog owners; however, this disease is still very rare, so the advise to dog owners to remain calm but vigilant, and seek advice from their local vet if their dog develops unexplained skin lesions."
Last year, cases of the disease were found right around the country.
What is Alabama Rot?
The flesh-eating disease, also known as CRGV, causes dogs to vomit, develop skin lesions and is fatal in 80% of cases. This is due to the fact that if the disease is not spotted early, it can lead to sudden and potentially fatal kidney failure.
SIGNS
• Skin lesions
• A scrape or ulcer to an area, often feet
• Red areas with black centres often found on the legs and muzzle
• The disease can develop to affect the kidneys and cause kidney failure, which is most likely fatal
• Once the disease has gone to this further stage symptoms include vomiting, reduced appetite and tiredness
Unfortunately, as the cause of Alabama Rot is not known, dog owners cannot directly prevent their pet from contracting the disease. But here is some advice on reducing the risk...
How to help prevent the disease:
• Try to walk your dog on dry paths and avoid muddy areas.
• Wash off paws, legs and tummies of dogs after a muddy walk.
• Check for symptoms and call a vet if in doubt.

26th Nov and Did you miss me??? No breed notes for a while and that’s not me ,is it?? Well good news for you as I am back in the country after a rather quick emergency exit back to Norway and hense missing the breed notes and a number of Open shows that I had entered, but family comes first.
Amazing how quickly people turn around and help, like the boarding kennels that I took the dogs to.I rang up in the afternoon explaining the situation -they must go in now -and yes not a problem we can fix that for you but you must be here by 5pm.It is rush hour and we have a really bad tunnel here on the M4 that is always seriously slow or gridlocked-. half way there and a slight panic- dogs passports what did I do with them? and kennels shuts at 5!! I stopped the car ,charged around looking for these blasted passports- phew-- it was in my coat pocket- luckily as I had left my handbag and everything else at home.Got there right on 5.Question from the staff when I got there .when do you come back? I just said I have no idea .Big smile form the girls - don't you worry- we will look after them and you just keep us posted..I could have cried. How often do you come across kindness and understanding like this?
Well, finally back in UK and all well back at home .Dogs collected and they were happy and so delighted to be back home. The staff at the kennels absolutely adore them and had to have their cuddles before they would let them go.Doesn't that make you feel good knowing that others also love your dogs?
Now all we need is to chill and relax. So there you have it.
