What a great honour to judge the Bulldog at Crufts, my first breed and still one of my favourites. I was looking for a standard Bulldog of correct size and weight with the soundness that is asked for. Today, some quality exhibits that looked the part standing, lost out on top placements on the basis of their movement. I was delighted with the overall quality of the breed, with very few problems other than movement. I would like to thank the exhibitors for the sporting way in which they accepted my decisions and for the super atmosphere ringside.

1813 Veteran - Dog (Entries: 6 Abs: 2)
1st: 10641 THE MIZ AT BAALZEBUL JW (S M DAVIES). 7 year old red and white quality male, standing true in front with tight feet. Nice bone and substance, strong neck and good shoulders. Correct headpiece with a good broad skull, neat ears, correct eye shape and colour, just the right amount of roll and correct in mouth. Good overall body shape and strong and firm in the rear. This dog used himself really well on the move.
2nd: 10603 CH/INT/FR/ES CH BEST BULLDOGIRONA MARE MAGNUM [ATC AV00696ESP] (MR J BARRAGAN GARCIA). 8 and a half year old male turned out in lovely coat and condition. Pleasing in head with the right expression. Stands on good front and feet with nice width of chest and correct spring of rib. Excellent top-line and strong through the rear. Moves out well.
3rd: 10767 ROSPAW SOLDIER BOY (MS Y E PANNIFER). 7 year old red and white male in good condition with a pleasing head and expression. Nice overall shape, just a little sluggish on the move.
1814 Minor Puppy - Dog (Entries: 2 Abs: 0)
1st: 10705 BURCHELL MR BOHANNON AT BRITANIC (MR MRS R D IRONMONGER). 7 month old brindle and white dog making a nice shape with the right amount of substance. Pleasing in head with good width of skull and neat ears. Nice eye shape and colour and true in the mouth. Stands on a good front and feet, nice spring of rib and correct top-line. Strong through the rear for his age and true and correct in movement. Best Puppy Dog
2nd: 10594 ODINSCHILD VIOLET WARRIOR (L ANSCOMBE). 8 month old with a good all round shape. Correct head-piece with neat ears, good eye shape and nice turn of under-jaw. Firm through the body and correct in top-line. Stands on a well-muscled rear, just needs to tighten a little in front on the move.
1815 Puppy - Dog (Entries: 16 Abs: 1)
1st: 10808 KADREYA MESSAGE TO YOU RUDY (MR A & MS J SQUIRES & FOWLER). 9 month red and white quality puppy. Lovely head with neat ears, good eye colour, just the right amount of roll and true in the mouth. Stands correct in front with good bone and feet, a nice spring of rib and a good top-line. Stands correct in the rear and well-muscled. This puppy moves soundly when viewed from all angles.
2nd: 10751 GOODBULL PIED PIPER (MR R, MRS S & MISS C C MCMUNN & GRIFFITHS). 10 month old red and white male, slightly larger than 1 but of good type. Correct in front and well off for bone. Quality head with a good expression, strong in the neck and shoulders with a nice spring of rib and good width of chest. Strong in the rear and moves out with purpose.
3rd: 10741 MELLOWMOOD MORGANITE CALIBRA (MR R & MRS L A MARTIN). 11 month old red and white, well off for substance. Stands on a good front and rear. Pleasing in head and nice overall body shape. Put down in hard condition and moves well.
1816 Junior - Dog (Entries: 18 Abs: 4)
1st: 10598 ANDLARE OKEY DOKEY (MR A R & MRS C L BANNISTER). 13 month old red and white male of lovely type. Super head and expression with nice width between the ears, lovely eye shape and colour, just the right amount of roll, excellent under-jaw and true in the mouth. Stands on a quality front with lovely feet, excellent width of chest and good spring of rib. Correct in top-line, stands true behind and well-muscled for his age. This youngster is so true both coming and going and effortless on his side-gait.
2nd: 10777 ROKOLUCK MR CRACKER (MRS T F & N C PHILLIPS). 14 month old red male turned out in nice condition. Another pleasing youngster with a quality head-piece, standing true in front with good bone and substance. Excellent width of chest, nice spring of rib, correct in tuck-up, good topline and firm behind. This dog moves out with purpose and produces a good overall shape.
3rd: 10631 ROXYPRIDE BILLY RAY AT ROSIELOLA (MR L & MRS C DANCER-FARREN). 16 month old red and white with a strong head and pleasing expression. Well off for bone and substance with a nice spring of rib and good overall body shape. Strong in the rear and moves out well.
1817 Yearling – Dog (Entries: 10 Abs: 0)
1st: 10845 SHIPSHAPE JADORE (MRS L WATKINS). 18 month old quality red and white male. So much to like about this youngster. Stands on a true front with just the right amount of bone and substance. Strong in the neck with a lovely head-piece. Good width between the ears, nice eye shape and colour, correct amount of roll and nice sweep of under-jaw. Excellent width of chest, nice spring of rib and correct tuck-up and top-line. Strong and firm behind, this dog moves out with so much purpose and is true when viewed from all angles. Pleased to award him Reserve Dog CC.
2nd: 10652 LUMBUSE MR DOUGLAS HOME FOR RYJARLOW (MR J & MRS S DEARLOVE). 18 month old brindle male. Nice standard size, of good type and turned out in super condition. Pleasing in head, stands true in front with good feet, firm and well-muscled through the body and true and strong in the rear. Correct top-line and tail-set and sound on the move.
3rd: 10825 RUAKURI CHASING GREAT JW, (MRS K & MR A TAKARANGI). Red and white male of good size and shape. Stands correct in front with a pleasing head and nice expression. Strong through the body and firm in the rear. Just needs to tighten up on the move.
1818 Graduate - Dog (Entries: 15 Abs: 2)
1st: 10658 RICATORI REDESIGNED (MRS V & MR R EATON). Real quality red and white male, so close to taking top honours. Such a pleasing head and expression with neat ears, dark eye and correct in the mouth with a nice true under-jaw. Excellent neck and shoulders, standing on a great front with tight feet. Lovely overall body shape with correct top-line and strong and well-muscled behind. This dog uses himself so well on the move. Turned out in lovely coat and condition.
2nd: 10785 FAT PUPPYS SASHA [ATC AU01648ESP] ( MR J & MRS REY & RIBAS). Brindle and white turned out in super condition and making an excellent shape. Stands on a true front with good feet and just the right amount of bone. Good neck and shoulders, excellent head-piece with a super expression. Good spring of rib, right amount of tuck-up and correct top-line. Firm and well-muscled rear. This dog moves out with purpose and is so true in movement. Well handled.
3rd: 10793 BAGIBELI BILLY RAY (MR A T & MRS S L SAXON). Strong red and white male with a good front and nice bone. Quality head with a nice expression, but would prefer just a little less wrinkle. Strong through the body and firm in the rear. Moves out soundly.
1819 Post Graduate - Dog (Entries: 13 Abs: 2)
1st: 10672 BRITISHPRIDE SPECTRE (MRS M GOODWIN). Another quality male making a nice shape and outline. Pleasing in head with neat ears, good width of skull, nice eye shape and colour, right amount of roll and good sweep of under-jaw. Excellent front and feet, well off for bone with a good spring of rib, right amount of tuck-up and correct top-line. Good firm rear and moves out soundly. Turned out in nice condition.
2nd: 10843 SHIPSHAPE SHOOTING STAR (MRS L WATKINS). Red and white, quite strong in head with good width between the ears. Nice eye shape and colour, correct in roll, good sweep of under-jaw and a pleasing expression. Stands true in front with excellent width and depth of chest, good spring of rib, correct top-line and strong and true through the rear. This dog moves cleanly when viewed from all angles.
3rd: 10698 VOYAGE RED OF RENIKKHO (MISS J L & MR C R A HOPKINS & RENNEBACH). Dark red with a quality head and good expression. Correct in front with good bone and tight feet. Firm in the body and nice in shape. Strong in the rear and moves out with purpose.
1820 Mid Limit - Dog (Entries: 11 Abs: 3)
1st: 10618 PUNKER BABYNOUBULL [ATC AU01654BEL] (MME I CEZAR). Quality red and white, well off for type and of correct size. Pleasing in head with a lovely expression and a super true under-jaw. Stands on an excellent front and feet and correct in bone. Good width of chest and nice spring of rib. Correct top-line and tail-set and just the right amount of tuck-up. Firm and true in the rear and moves out really well. Turned out in super condition.
2nd: 10805 JIRUKA'S MAX VERSTAPPEN SAINTROSEMIL (MRS J & MR P SMITH). Brindle male, strong in head with good width between the ears, excellent eye shape and colour, just the right amount of roll and a quality under-jaw. Stands on a firm front with good feet. Excellent neck and shoulders, nice spring of rib and correct top-line and tuck-up. Firm and strong in the rear and moves out with purpose.
3rd: 10700 DEMPSEY MESSIAH AT HUNTTHORN (MR & MRS N HUNTER). Fawn and white of nice type with a pleasing head and good expression. Stands true in front with a firm rear. Excellent spring of rib and tuck-up. Correct in top-line and moves soundly.
1821 Limit - Dog (Entries: 18 Abs: 4)
1st: 10600 ANDLARE EVERHARD JW (MR A R & MRS C L BANNISTER). Red brindle making a nice shape and outline. Stands on a good front with nice feet and correct bone. Lovely head-piece with good width between the ears, nice eye shape and colour, right amount of roll and excellent sweep of under-jaw. Strong and firm through the neck with good width of chest and spring of rib. Correct topline and tuck-up. Firm and well-muscled in the rear and turned out in lovely condition. Excellent on the move both coming and going.
2nd: 10624 BULLYOYO HEARTBREAKER [ATC AV00654ESP] (MR G J CONTRERAS BARBA). Pleasing red and white standing on a super front and feet with good bone. Excellent head with a lovely expression. Firm through the neck and shoulders with good width and depth of body. Excellent spring of rib with just the right amount of tuck-up and correct top-line. Stands on a strong, wellmuscled rear and true on the move when viewed from all angles. Turned out in lovely condition.
3rd: 10736 ALL BY MYSELF ELITE JR SLO CH [ATC AT02155ITA] (MR L MALLOZZI). Another nice red and white male, correct in size with plenty of substance. Good quality head, stands on a true front with nice feet. Firm through the body with a good top-line. Strong in the rear with good muscle tone. Nice coat and condition and moves out with purpose.
1822 Open - Dog (Entries: 16 Abs: 1)
1st: 10795 CH SEALAVILLE HE’S TYLER (MR P SEAL). 5 year old male turned out in super condition. Stands true and parallel in front with lovely tight feet. Excellent width of chest leading to strong neck and good shoulders. Super head-piece with good width of skull, neat ears, dark clear eye, just the right amount of roll, true in the mouth and an excellent sweep of under-jaw. Good spring of rib, correct in tuck-up and top-line and excellent, well-muscled rear. This dog excels on the move and is so true both coming and going producing the perfect side-gait for the breed. What a showman this boy is! Honoured to have awarded him his first CC as a youngster and this, his 40th and as I now understand, his retiring CC and Best of Breed today.

Excellent width of chest with a strong neck and shoulders. Quality head-piece with neat ears, dark eye, correct in the mouth and a super expression. Strong and firm in the top-line with a good spring of rib and correct top-line. Firm and well-muscled through the rear and turned out in lovely condition. Moves out with purpose.
3rd: 10625 BATMAN DAS ESTRELAS DO MONTADO [ATC AT02263ESP] (MR G J CONTRERAS BARBA). Red and white of good type, standing true in front with good feet. Quality head with super expression. Firm and well-muscled through the body and stands true and parallel behind. Very sound on the move.

1st: 10611 HARLEWOOD LOOK WHOS HERE (MRS A BOYLE). White dog with red markings, turned out in hard condition making a good overall shape. Pleasing in head with a nice expression. Stands on a good front and a well-muscled rear. Excellent top-line and tail-set. Moves out with purpose.

1st: 10847 IZZY HEIRS APPARENT (MRS WATSON). 9 and a half year strong red bitch of good shape and in nice coat and condition. Pleasing head and expression with neat ears, dark eye and correct mouth. Stands on a true front with a good spring of rib, firm through the body and a nice top-line. Strong in the rear and moves out with purpose.
2nd: 10621 WARSON MRS DOUBTFIRE AT LINFORDPRIDE SHCM (MR T & MISS A COLLINS & GILLINGWATER). 7 and a half year old red and white standing on a good front and feet with just the right amount of bone. Pleasing in head, nice spring of rib, correct amount of tuck-up and good topline and tail-set. Strong and well-muscled through the rear and moves out well.
3rd: 10623 MA MILONES MARVEL FROM WEARBULL (MISS D COLWILL). 9 and a half year old red and white. Strong bitch of good type with a pleasing head and expression. Good width of chest and stands on a straight front with nice feet. Firm through the body and strong and well-muscled in the rear. Turned out in good condition and moves well.

3rd: 10798 BRITISHROSE PURE PLATINUM PASHIRS (MR P & MRS A SHIRTCLIFFE). Quality bitch making a good overall shape with a pleasing head and expression. Stands on a true front and wellmuscled rear. Turned out in good coat and condition and moves well.

1st: 10644 YARESVILLE JACKIEO MYSTYLE (MR K & MRS D DAVIS & BISHOPRICK). Red and white quality female, excelling in head with good width between neat ears, nice dark eye, correct amount of roll over the nose and good width and sweep of under-jaw. Nice strong neck leading to correct shoulders and excellent front and feet. Nice spring of rib, good top-line and tail-set and just the right amount of tuck-up. Strong and parallel in the rear and well-muscled. Super clean on the move both coming and going and produces an effortless side-gait. Turned out in excellent coat and condition and handled to perfection. Reserve Bitch CC.
2nd: 10726 MILASHA GIGI (MR & MRS S LEE). White bitch excelling in type, just love the head-piece. Lovely width between the ears, darkest of eyes, good width and sweep of under-jaw and super pigment. Stands true in front with great feet, nice width of chest and excellent neck and shoulders. Good spring of rib and nice depth of body. Excellent tuck-up and correct in top-line. Strong and powerful in the rear. Movement needs to tighten a little in front but super sound behind. Quality youngster turned out in great coat and condition.
3rd: 10642 BAALZEBUL KIR ROYALE (S M DAVIES). Brindle & white of good type and correct shape. Pleasing in head with a super expression. Stands true in front, firm through the body and correct in the rear. Good top-line and tail-set and moves out cleanly both coming and going.

1st: 10650 RUAKURI BOUND FOR GLORY JW (MRS L & MR D DAVIS). Red and white of nice type and shape. Quality head-piece with good width of skull, neat ears, dark eye and good width and sweep of under-jaw. Nice neck and shoulders, correct front and feet, good width of chest and depth of body, nice top-line and tail-set and right amount of tuck-up. Strong and well-muscled through the rear and moves cleanly with purpose. Turned out in good condition.

Stands true in front and strong and well-muscled in the rear. Firm through the body with a good topline and moves out well.
3rd: 10712 SOUTERBULL SHES THE SANDANCER (MRS R JORDAN). Red and white, nice compact bitch turned out in good coat and condition. Quality head-piece with a true expression. Stands correct in front and firm in the body. Nice parallel rear and moves out soundly with purpose.
1830 Post Graduate – Bitch (Entries: 12 Abs: 4)
1st: 10636 BAALZEBUL AMARONE (S M DAVIES). Very typey brindle and white with a quality headpiece, neat ears, dark eye and good width and sweep of under-jaw. Correct neck and shoulders, quality front and feet and excellent spring of rib. Nice tuck-up, correct top-line and tail-set and stands firm and parallel behind. So true on the move both coming and going and produces a lovely side-gait. In lovely coat and condition and at one with her handler at all times.
2nd: 10630 MIDLAND BULLS PRIM'N PROPER AT ROSIELOLA (MR L & MRS C DANCER-FARREN). Brindle and white of nice size with plenty of substance. Quality front with good feet and excellent width of chest. Nice strong head with correct expression. Good spring of rib and depth of body, correct in top-line and tuck-up and strong and well-muscled through the rear. Moves cleanly in the front, just a touch close behind. Turned out in super condition.
3rd: 10706 BROXUP YORKSHIRE ROSE AT BRITANIC (MR R IRONMONGER). Strong red and white bitch, well off for bone and substance. Stands on a nice straight front with good width of chest and a firm neck and shoulders. Strong head with the right expression. Firm through the body and stands on a good rear. Sound on the move both coming and going.

1st: 10762 CUTIE MCPRETTY AT RAGMARTE (MRS M MORRIS). Red and white standard bitch of lovely type and quality. Super head-piece with a nice dark eye, good width of muzzle and correct in the mouth. Great front and feet, nice width of chest and correct amount of spring of rib. Strong in top-line with just the right amount of tuck-up. Parallel behind and well-muscled, turned out in super condition and so sound on the move.

3rd: 10595 ASHARLO TOOTY FRUITY (MISS H & MR S ASHTON & DODWELL). Red and white of nice all round shape and outline. Pleasing in head with a nice expression. Stands true in front and strong in the rear. Firm through the body with a good top-line and tail-set. Moves correctly both coming and going.

Strong in top-line with a good tail-set and a nice parallel rear, which is wellmuscled. Excels on the move both coming and going and turned out in super condition.

Quality head-piece with a good width of skull, neat ears and dark eye. Stands on a straight front with tight feet and plenty of bone. What a great honour to judge the Bulldog at Crufts, my first breed and still one of my favourites. I was looking for a standard Bulldog of correct size and weight with the soundness that is asked for. Today, some quality exhibits that looked the part standing, lost out on top placements on the basis of their movement. I was delighted with the overall quality of the breed, with very few problems other than movement. I would like to thank the exhibitors for the sporting way in which they accepted my decisions and for the super atmosphere ringside.

Super head and expression with nice width between the ears, lovely eye shape and colour, just the right amount of roll, excellent under-jaw and true in the mouth. Stands on a quality front with lovely feet, excellent width of chest and good spring of rib. Correct in top-line, stands true behind and well-muscled for his age. This youngster is so true both coming and going and effortless on his side-gait.

Another pleasing youngster with a quality head-piece, standing true in front with good bone and substance. Excellent width of chest, nice spring of rib, correct in tuck-up, good topline and firm behind. This dog moves out with purpose and produces a good overall shape.
3rd: 10631 ROXYPRIDE BILLY RAY AT ROSIELOLA (MR L & MRS C DANCER-FARREN). 16 month old red and white with a strong head and pleasing expression. Well off for bone and substance with a nice spring of rib and good overall body shape. Strong in the rear and moves out well.

Excellent width of chest, nice spring of rib and correct tuck-up and top-line. Strong and firm behind, this dog moves out with so much purpose and is true when viewed from all angles. Lovely overall body shape with correct top-line and strong and well-muscled behind. This dog uses himself so well on the move. Turned out in lovely coat and condition.

Good spring of rib, correct in tuck-up and top-line and excellent, well-muscled rear. This dog excels on the move and is so true both coming and going producing the perfect side-gait for the breed. What a showman this boy is! Honoured to have awarded him his first CC as a youngster and this, his 40th and as I now understand, his retiring CC and Best of Breed today.
