DogBasics Puppy Socialising
The Puppy socialising sessions are 30 minute long sessions, with the puppies off lead playing with each other.
Each socialising group is set up depending on the personality of the dog, making sure that the most nervous puppies will have a chance to build up confidence with other gentle puppies. See information on how to book, below.
When can you start?
As soon as your puppy is fully vaccinated, he can join the socialising sessions. There are several sessions throughout the week and you can come to as many as you like.
Where is the training held?
All the training is done outdoors, so we are dependant on daylight, which means there will be evening sessions in the summer, but not in winter.
Help with your puppy BEFORE vaccinations are done...
Get a home visit from a dog trainer before your puppy is fully vaccinated!
If you want to make sure you get everything right from the beginning, get a dog trainer to come to your home for a private training session, before your puppy is fully vaccinated. We can highly recommend Pam Haynes at The Dog School or Alison Milner at MilnersMutts for this type of home visit (sorry, but we don't offer this service ourselves).
Puppy socialising session price:
Free of charge
Number of puppies in each class:
There will be a maximum of 8 puppies in each socialising class.
Exercises:
none
Goal with socialising sessions:
Teaching
your puppy some self control, confidence and some basic social
skills with other puppies, in a secure environment.
How to book:
To book your space on a Puppy socialising session, please fill in the Contact Us form with your preferences for your Entry lesson. You will need to take the Entry lesson before you can start socialising your dog.
If you have a puppy that is Cocker Spaniel sized or smaller, choose the Small Social. Anything bigger than a Cocker should choose the Medium socials, unless your puppy is very nervous around other dogs. Extra small breeds such as Chihuahuas, Mini Dachshunds, Toy Poodles or any X of such small size, should pick the Xtra Tiny sessions.
How old are the puppies in the lessons?
The puppies are welcome from the day that they
are allowed out, after having finished their
vaccinations.
We don't really have a lid on the max age of the puppies that come to the socialisation sessions, but we do divide the puppies up in different groups, depending on their confidence. Generally the puppies over 4 months go to the Medium socialisation sessions and the puppies under 4 months and all small breed puppies (no matter what age) go to the Small socialisation sessions, but there are exceptions.
Which group your puppy is most suited for will be decided in the Entry lesson.
Where are the lessons held?
Our puppy socials are held outdoors, in Great Offley, Hertfordshire, in a football field.
The football field is located in the post code area SG5 3DN. Offley is a village located
between Luton and Hitchin, near Lilley, Charlton
and Cockernhoe. We are near the boarder of Bedfordshire.
Click here for maps and pictures of Offley and the training areas.
Come and view a class first!
To make sure the classes and socials at DogBasics offer the right type of training for you, please come along and watch a lesson or two before you sign up to your course. Let us know if you would like to come and watch a lesson and we will give you instructions on how to find us.
